4/12/10 > Pennies for Patients

SchoolCenter PictureStudents at La Porte Junior High collected Pennies for Patients to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  After three weeks of students bringing in their spare change to school, the total raised was $669.96! Thank you to LPJH Student Council for organizing this charitable fundraiser.

The top fundraising 7th grade class was Mr. Riley's class.  They donated $177.96!  Miss Breaux's homeroom was at the top for the 8th grade, donating $86.43.  The students at La Porte Junior High learned that every penny counts and they are able to make a big difference.  All of their efforts will help local patients and their families along with funding blood cancer research at Texas Children's Hospital.

Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults.  An estimated 894, 543 Americans are living with a blood cancer, and every five minutes, someone new is diagnosed.  Since 200, $2.7 million has been raised locally by thousands of elementary, middle and high school students.  For information regarding local programs and services of the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, call 713.680.8088 or visit www.LLS.org .

We will be performing Ed Opus (Rex) on December 8, 2009, at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria.

Based roughly on the intricate plot of Oedipus Rex, this comedy/farce relates the adventures of Ed Opus, beloved and loving student body president of West Thebes High School. See Ed Opus track down the unknown stranger who did away with Teen Angel. Empathize with Ty Reesias, president of the Soothsayer Club, as he tells Ed Opus who the culprit really is. Let your heart soar with Ed's girlfriend, Yo Yo Costa, as she solves the riddle of the matching birthmarks that resemble a Maltese Falcon straddling Detroit. The set is minimal, the fun maximal!
