The Texas Association of Partners in Education will honor John Black
and The Bayshore Sun, a partner with the La Porte Independent
School District, at the annual state partnership conference slated for
Jan. 24 in Austin.
The
Bayshore Sun
has
been named for the Texas Media Award for small school districts,
which includes those with student populations of less than 10,000 students.
Editor and Publisher John Black will receive the prestigious Crystal
Awards during a special awards ceremony dinner at the TAPE state conference
on Jan. 24.
His
commitment to student success is evident in his consistent showcasing
of students’ achievements, his generosity of the paper’s space in
highlighting students, staff, The Education Foundation, other school
partnership accomplishments and district activities. His support
on important district/community issues, such as the recent passing of
a $203 plus million dollar bond, is one of many, many examples of community
print media choosing to emphasize both students and school issues, with
the emphasis on the positive whenever possible.
There were more than 80 partnerships that were nominated for a TAPE
award.
The Crystal Award exemplifies
the highest commitment to the students attending public schools in Texas.
