On May 10th, 2006 La Porte ISD held their annual Service Awards for employees of 15, 20, 25,30, 35, and 40 years of service to the District plus retirees. Also honored were Campus Teachers of the Year and District Teachers for 2006-2007 were announced.
Shown below left to right: Mary Baca, Secondary District Teacher of the Year, 7th grade Language Arts teacher at Lomax Jr. High; Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Say, Laura Garcia new Elementary District Teacher of the Year, the music teacher at Leo Rizzuto Elementary. Each of these teachers received $5000 dollars from former board member Pat Studdert. To date Studdert has given over $90,000 dollars to La Porte ISD’s District Teachers of the Year since 1994.
This is the first time Pat Studdert has missed the Service Awards since he began honoring these teachers. Even then he taped a personal message to all teachers and staff to be shown at the Awards.
