LPHS Orienteering Team adds 2 more national titles to their collection

In recent competition in Elkton, Maryland the LPHS Orienteering Team added two more national titles to their collection.

The varsity team of Curtis Adams, John Girton, James Grady, Victor Marrero and Michael Norris won the Interscholastic National JROTC championship.  Curtis Adams and Michael Norris won individual medals finishing fourth and fifth respectively in a field of 50 competitors.

The junior varsity team won its fourth national title in a row led by an individual gold medal effort by Ashley Hernandez and a silver medal effort by Derek Scott.  Chance Collard contributed an overall fifth place medal.  Reuben Hernandez and Gilbert Garza also performed will in helping the team to yet another title.

The freshmen team finished second with valiant efforts by Cody Norris (3rd place individual), Rebekah Hernandez (4th place individual medalist), Dana Johnson (5th place individual medal) and strong efforts from Manny Solis and Paris Wallett.

Terrance Sowell, competing for the Freshmen B team, won an individual fifth place medal as the B team barely missed out on third place team medals by place fourth.  Other team members were Dyllon Timm, Chris Vickers, Daniel Ward and Denise Huerta.

Not to be outdone by the kids, two of the moms on the trip earned medals.  Terri Norris won a silver medal and Sheila (Girton) Dromgoole won a bronze medal.

The two additional national titles brings La Porte's total to ten in the past seven years. Major Larry Vidinha is the Orienteering Coach and JROTC Commander.
