On Tuesday, January 29th, LPHS sophomore orchestra member, Robert Green, performed with the Houston Symphony in Jones Hall. Robert is a second year member of the Houston Youth Symphony bass section. In celebration of their 60th Anniversary, the Houston Youth Symphony participated in a side-by-side concert. Each youth musician had the experience of performing side-by-side with a professional musician. The concert was titled "A Salute to Educators". The concert featured the 2007 Houston Symphony League Concert Competition Gold Medalist, eighteen year old, Julia Li, performing Prokofiev's Violin Concert No. 1 in D Major as well as the collaborative performance of Elgar's Enigma Variations with the Houston Youth Symphony.
Outstanding music educators were honored with the presentation of the Fidelity Future Stage awards. The recipient for the strings category was Mrs. Shirley Astwood, former orchestra director of LPHS.
