La Porte has a terrific showing at the National Forensics League District Championships

La Porte had a terrific showing this past weekend at the National Forensics League (NFL) District Championships, where the Houston area's teams were invited to compete for just three National Qualification spots. Students begin competing Thursday and keep getting eliminated until late Saturday evening when the three qualifiers are named. La Porte took two of the three in Lincoln Douglas Debate, with Brittany Ellenberg going undefeated for three straight days and Jack Swearingen only losing one round the entire time. Both of these students are now qualified for the NFL National Championships in June. This is only the second time La Porte has ever had a National Qualifier, the first time to ever have two in the same year, and certainly the first time to take two of the three top spots in the debate event. Jonathan Machemehl just missed out on making it a clean sweep, lasting through late Saturday until finally being eliminated after making it into the top ten. We're really proud of what they've accomplished.
