The Sonja Angelo Theater is now once again officially open. Monday evening, May 5, La Porte, Morgan's Point and Shoreacres community members gathered to celebrate the reopening of the Sonja Angelo Theater. On hand to help celebrate were over 70 elementary students from all 7 of La Porte ISD's elementary schools, La Porte High School Thespian members in abundance, district faculty and staff members, plus many area community supporters of the district's theater program. Due to the Bond Referendum of 2005, the theater has been renovated and many needed updates added. Additional classrooms were included in the renovations.
Theater teacher Kerry Regan said it best. "The Sonja Angelo Theater is more than a building or a theater. This is our home." She and Steve Regan graduated from La Porte High School in 1974. Fellow theater teacher Kelly Nelson graduated from La Porte High School in 1982. Welcome home, Kerry, Steve and Kelly. The community has given a wonderful home where present and future high school stars can perform and grow.
