LPHS Flutist Kirstin Hilson awarded Outstanding Performer at UIL Event
Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Richard Floyd, State Director of Music for the University Interscholastic League (UIL), recently notified LPHS flutist Kirsten Hilson that she was receiving the "State Champions" Medallion awarded to all Texas State Champions in UIL events. Mr. Floyd's communication stated "On behalf of the University Interscholastic League please allow me to congratulate you for being selected as an OUTSTANDING PERFORMER at the 2008 Texas State Solo-Ensemble (TSSEC) Flute Solo Contest. Of the approximately 85,000 students participating in the regional UIL music contest and the 22,000 musicians who performed at TSSEC, only 256 students earned the distinguished honor of being recognized as an OUTSTANDING PERFORMER. This achievement is truly a mark of musical excellence". Kirsten performed the First Movement of the Mozart Flute Concerto in D from memory. Ms. Hilson has been a regular participant in the TSSEC for the past three years, receiving numerous Superior ratings for both Solo and Ensemble performances on the flute.

Her parents Rachel Carlton and Philip Hilson are both accomplished violinists and music educators.
