Dear Parents:

Because we value your child's health and well-being, we are again notifying you of another discovery of a bat outside the southeast part of our building. The bat was found in an area that is limited to student activity. The bat was removed by La Porte Animal Control and was sent to Harris County for further testing.  This morning we received notification that the bat was found to be rabid. 

We again ask your assistance. Please talk to your child about the importance of staying away from any wild animals and emphasize that they should never touch or attempt to catch a bat.  Children who come in contact with a bat or other wild animal should immediately tell an adult.

If, for any reason, your child tells you they have picked up or come in contact with a bat in recent days, we ask that you contact our school nurse.

La salud y el bienestar de su hijo/a es nuestra primera prioridad en La Porte Elementary y por eso necesito hacerles saber del descubrimiento de un murciélago en la parte sureste de la escuela ayer en la mañana. El murciélago fue descubierto en una parte de la escuela que tiene muy limitada actividad de estudiantes. El murciélago fue capturado por el Departamento de Control de Animales de La Porte y se  mando al Condado Harris para ser evaluado. Esta mañana fuimos notificados que el murciélago estaba afectado con la rabia.

Por favor ayúdenos y hable con su hijo/a sobre la importancia de mantenerse lejos de un animal salvaje y que nunca intenten capturar o tocar un murciélago. Si un estudiante tiene contacto con cualquier animal salvaje necesita decirle a un adulto de inmediato. Si, por cualquier razón, su hijo/a les dice que han recogido o han estado en contacto con un murciélago en estos últimos días, les pedimos que contacten la enfermera de la escuela.
