La Porte High School senior Ian Ogando earned the status of Division 1 Super Heavy Weight State Champion in powerlifting on March 28.  The state championship took place at Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Ian lifted a total of 1,875 lbs., including 780 in the squat, 470 in the bench press, and 625  in the dead lift.   He is coached by Kevin Berneathy.

Ian plans to attend Eastern New Mexico University on a football scholarship this fall.
