La Porte ISD Board of Trustees
President Kathy Green has been elected as second vice president of the Gulf
Coast Area Association of School Boards (GCAASB) for the 2009-10 school year.
Green, who has been a GCAASB member
for the past five years, served as secretary-treasurer of the organization for
the 2008-09 school year.
GCAASB is a voluntary organization made
up of more than 50 school boards in the greater Houston area. The mission of GCAASB is to enhance the
quality of education for public school children in the Texas Gulf Coast area by
providing education and information to local school boards and creating an
opportunity for local school boards to impact legislation affecting public
schools.
The dues paid by GCAASB member
school boards and associate members, who are supporters of public education,
provide state-required training for local trustees at quarterly meetings,
produce a regular newsletter, and support educational excellence at the local
school level through a scholarship program.
"The experience that Mrs. Green has
gained on her local Board of Trustees will benefit all of the students, staffs
and schools in the Gulf Coast Area Association, as it is combined on the
Executive Board with the experience of trustees from 14 other school
districts," said GCAASB Executive Secretary Jerry Smith. "That leadership will be meaningful!"
In addition to Green, trustees
serving as 2009-10 GCAASB officers are Marine Jones, president, of Aldine ISD;
Jimmy Zepeda, first vice president, Hempstead ISD; Becky Streetman,

ISD.
