The
La Porte ISD family was shocked and saddened by news of the charges
against former LPISD trustee Larry Cox. The charges are out of
character with respect to the Board member that we knew.
On
Jan. 6, subsequent to a conversation with Superintendent Lloyd W.
Graham, Mr. Cox resigned from his position on the Board for personal
reasons. Upon recommendation of Mr. Graham, the Board held a called
meeting on Jan. 11 to formally accept Mr. Cox's resignation. The
Board appointed former trustee Gene Horn to serve in the Position 4
seat, and Mr. Horn accepted, effectively completing the resignation
process as required by law.
At
the Jan. 19 regular meeting of the Board, trustees called for a
regular election on May 8 for Positions 6 and 7 and a special
election for Position 4. The candidate elected to Position 4 will
serve the remaining two years of the term.
Mr.
Cox worked in LPISD as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and
principal from 1974 to 2002. He was elected to the Board of Trustees
in 2007 and was re-elected in 2009.
LPISD
respectfully refers all questions about the investigation to the La
Porte Police Department or the Harris County District Attorney's
Office.
