Rizzuto Elementary School fifth grader Kelsey Ramirez is the winner of the 2010 La Porte ISD spelling bee held on Feb. 19 at the LPISD Administration Building. Rebecca Terrell, a fifth grader at Heritage Elementary School, was the runner-up in the competition that included 30 students from all district elementary and junior high campuses.
Kelsey spelled "rhetoric" to win the district trophy in the 15th round of the contest. The top three finalists in each campus spelling bee advanced to the district competition.
In addition to Kelsey and Rebecca, the competitors included Mackenzie Andrews, Chris Cook and Jeremiah Wilson from Bayshore Elementary; Emilee Anderson, Andrea Escoto and Karina Perez from College Park Elementary; Savannah Rose and Grayson Nutt from Heritage Elementary; Ethan Goode, Cheyenne Driskill and Donovan Goins from Jennie Reid Elementary; and Kayla Gonzalez, Amee Moore and Savannah Clark from La Porte Elementary.
Participants also included Chandler Raines, Maegan James and Adriana Garcia from Lomax Elementary; Kayla Dlouhy and Rebecca Salinas from Rizzuto Elementary; Nick O'Donohoe, Bailey DeLong and Blake Gamez from Baker Sixth Grade Campus; Ozzie Torres, Andrea Rojas and Krystal Alaniz from La Porte Junior High School; and Emily Nix, Cullen McDonald and Amy Amaon from Lomax Junior High School.
