La Porte Education Celebration to be held March 25 at La Porte High School
Monday, March 8th, 2010

La Porte ISD's annual Education Celebration, sponsored by the La Porte Education Foundation, is set for Thursday, March 25, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at La Porte High School.

Parents and community members are invited to join in the celebration of LPISD and its students, educational programs, and schools.  "La Porte ISD-Building Tomorrow's Leaders" is the theme for this year's event, tying in with the Texas Public Schools Week theme of "Building Leaders:  Today They Learn.  Tomorrow They Lead."

Every LPISD school will have a booth to showcase activities at the campuses.  Musical performances by district elementary, junior high school, and high school groups are also scheduled throughout the event.  In addition, presentations on some of the successful grants made possible by the Education Foundation will take place in the Lecture Hall throughout the evening.

Also this year, parents will have the opportunity to pre-register their 2010-2011 kindergartners at the celebration.  Elementary registrars will be on hand to assist parents with the pre-registration process.  Parents are asked to bring with them their child's birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of residency (utilities statement, etc.), and updated immunization records.

Kindergarten registration also will be held at LPISD elementary campuses from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 29 through April 23.

In addition, La Porte Emergency Medical Services will also be on hand to give free immunizations to LPISD sixth graders.  A limited supply will be available.

LPISD students and adults will have the chance to complete a "Construction Log" by visiting designated booths during the event.  Students who complete the "Construction Log" will be eligible for a drawing for an iPod Touch, while adults who complete the log will be entered in the drawing for a Walmart gift card.

Campuses with the highest percentage of adult attendance will win $500 and the district's "Traveling Trophy" for one year.  Schools with the second-highest percentage of adult attendance will win $300.  Additional drawings for teachers, principals and assistant principals and district personnel will be held.

Raffles for a Phillips 42" LCD high-definition television and a Sony mini-hifi component system will also be held.  Donations are $2 each, 3 for $5, or 7 for $10.  Tickets are available at the Communications Office at the Administration Building and district campuses or at the event.

Drawings will also be held for an iPod Shuffle, external hard drive, HP printer, iHome clock-radio and more for a donation of $1 per ticket.

In addition, hot dogs, corn dogs, chips, drinks and cookies will be sold at the event.  Proceeds from all sales benefit the La Porte Education Foundation in its efforts to enhance education for LPISD students.
