La Porte High School's one-act play, "The Beaux' Stratagem," will advance to area competition on Friday, April 9, at San Jacinto College-Central's Slocumb Auditorium. The contest begins at 4 p.m., and LPHS will be the second performance.
The cost is $10 per person, and six schools will be performing in the competition.
The comedy production of the LPHS theater department has already won numerous honors on the path to the area contest.
At the district competition on March 27, Bryce Tracy was named Best Actor, and Shelby Bray, C.J. Martin and Jessica Pierson-Turner were named to the All-Star Cast. Adrian Ruiz and Chelsea Bishop earned honorable mention, and Keith Nolin received the technical award.
LPISD students also won a variety of awards at the zone competition on March 24. C.J. Martin was chosen as Best Actor, and All-Star Cast members included Shelby Bray, Bryce Tracy and Jessica Pierson-Turner. Katie McKinley, Stephen Mabry and Chris Kimball earned honorable mention, and Tyler McElroy earned the technical award.
Members of the cast and crew also will be performing in a dinner theater benefitting La Porte Neighborhood Center on April 16. The dinner theater will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Sarah Odell Gym at Neighborhood Center, 526 San Jacinto St. Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased from any Neighborhood Center Advisory Board member or at the center.
