La Porte High School one-act play advances to regional competition on April 24

  La Porte High School's one-act play, "The Beaux' Stratagem," will advance to University Interscholastic League regional competition on Saturday, April24, at San Jacinto College-Central's Slocumb Auditorium.  The contest begins at 4 p.m., and LPHS will be the fourth performance at 7 p.m.

  The cost is $10 per person, and six schools will be performing in the competition

  "The Beaux' Stratagem" by George Farquhar is adapted by Thornton Wilder and Ken Ludwig.  The LPHS production is directed by Kelly Nelson, Kerry Regan and Steve Regan.

  The comedy production of the LPHS theater department has already won numerous honors on the path to the regional contest.   At the area competition on April 9, Chelsea Bishop, Shelby Bray, C.J. Martin and Katie McKinley were named to the All-Star Cast, and honorable mention went to Stephen Mabry and Jessica Pierson-Turner.  The technical award went to Taylor McElroy.

At the district competition on March 27, Bryce Tracy was named Best Actor, and Shelby Bray, C.J. Martin and Jessica Pierson-Turner were named to the All-Star Cast.  Adrian Ruiz and Chelsea Bishop earned honorable mention, and Keith Nolin received the technical award.

  LPISD students also won a variety of awards at the zone competition on March 24.  C.J. Martin was chosen as Best Actor, and All-Star Cast members included Shelby Bray, Bryce Tracy and Jessica Pierson-Turner.  Katie McKinley, Stephen Mabry and Chris Kimball earned honorable mention, and Tyler McElroy earned the technical award.

  Members of the cast and crew also will be performing in a dinner theater benefitting La Porte Neighborhood Center on April 16.  The dinner theater will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Sarah Odell Gym at Neighborhood Center, 526 San Jacinto St. Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased from any Neighborhood Center Advisory Board member or at the center.

  Cast members include Marshall Copous as Boniface, Chelsea Bishop as Cherry, Josh Dossey as Daniel/Hounslow, Ally Oliphint as A Lady/Servant, Bryce Tracy as Jack Archer, C.J, Martin as Tom Aimwell, Malcolm Cherry as Gloss, Shelby Bray as Mrs. Kate Sullen.

  The cast also includes Jessica Pierson-Turner as Dorinda, Katie McKinley as Lady Bountiful, Adrian Ruiz as Scrub, Stephen Mabry as Sullen, Robert Le Blanc as Bagshot, Chris Kimball as Sir Charles Freeman and David Giang as Foigard.

  The crew includes Tyler McElroy, Taylor McElroy, Keith Nolin, Zach Ashworth and Courtney Allen, and alternates are Briana Headspeth, Celest Palacios and Cameron Regan.
