La Porte ISD Board of Trustees President Kathy Green has been elected as first vice president of the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards (GCAASB) for the 2010-2011 school year.
The GCAASB is a voluntary organization composed of more than 50 school boards in the greater Houston area. The organization strives to enhance the quality of education for public school children in the Texas Gulf Coast Area by providing education and information to local school boards and creating an opportunity for local school boards to impact legislation affecting the public schools.
The dues paid by GCAASB member school boards and associate members, who are supporters of public education, provide state-required training for local trustees at quarterly meetings, produce a regular newsletter, and support educational excellence at the local school level through a scholarship program.
"The experience that Mrs. Green has gained on her local Board of Trustees will benefit all of the students, staffs and schools in the Gulf Coast Area Association as it is combined on the Executive Board with the experience of trustees from 14 other school districts," said GCAASB Executive Secretary Jerry Smith. "That leadership will be meaningful!"
Local trustees serving as 2010-2011 officers of the GCAASB also include President Jimmy Zepeda of Hempstead ISD, Second Vice President Becky Streetman of Huffman ISD, Secretary/Treasurer Wayne Schaper, Sr., of Spring Branch ISD and Past President Marine Jones of Aldine ISD.
Local trustees serving as 2010-2011 GCAASB directors include Sarah Winkler of Alief ISD, Pete Vincent of Alvin ISD, Linda Huebner of Columbia-Brazoria ISD, J.T. Floyd of Dickinson ISD and Carl Burg of Goose Creek CISD.
Also serving as 2010-GCAASB Directors are Charles Cunningham of Humble ISD, Joe Adams of Katy ISD, Georgean Reitmeier of Klein ISD, Jeffrey Mitchell of Spring ISD and Kathy Hanson of Tomball ISD.
