Friday, November 5th, 2010

Thousands of yellow rubber ducks will bob their way to the finish line during the DuPont Rubber Duck Regatta benefitting the La Porte Education Foundation on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Sylvan Beach.

The family festival with booths, food and entertainment will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the actual race starting at 3 p.m.

More than 10,000 rubber ducks will be released into a contained area of Galveston Bay, with the ducks competing for a long list of prizes sponsored by local businesses and industries.

Top prize in the event is $5,000 and a chance to win a new Mustang. First prize is a five-night cruise for two, second prize is $1,000, and third prize is a 42-inch HD TV. Additional prizes are two iPads, a gas grill, an X-Box 360, a deep-sea fishing trip for four, an electronic book reader, an iPod, and more. Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the day.

DuPont is the "Top Duck" title sponsor for the event, with Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union the "Super Duck" sponsor.

"Mighty Duck" sponsors include Beacon Federal Credit Union, Kuraray, Noltex L.L.C., Kaneka Texas Corporation, Air Products, Baker Hughes, A.C.
