La Porte ISD received notification today that a bat found on the La Porte Elementary School campus early last week has tested positive for rabies.

A teacher found the bat on a sidewalk at the front of the building early that morning before students arrived at the campus. The bat was quickly removed by the LPISD Maintenance Department and sent away for testing. No one is believed to have come in contact with the bat.

Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about the importance of staying away from bats or any other wild animals that may carry rabies as well as telling a trusted adult if they should come in contact with one.
