Amber Harville, teacher at Lomax Elementary School, and Kay Blanchard, teacher at La Porte Junior High School, were announced as the 2011-2012 La Porte ISD Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year during the district’s annual Service Awards Celebration on May 12.
The event, with the theme of “An Enchanted Evening in Storyland,” was held at the La Porte High School Student Center. Many of those in attendance dressed up as their favorite storybook characters, ranging from the Cat in the Hat and his numerous Things to the friends from the Wizard of Oz and a large group of frogs that kissed storybook princesses.
Pat Studdert of Buffalo Marine, a former member of the LPISD Board of Trustees, presented Harville and Blanchard each with a check for $6,000 in recognition of their honor. Studdert has presented a generous check to the district honorees since the program’s inception as a tribute to teacher excellence.
