The La
Porte High School Bulldog tennis team is the District 22-5A champion and will
compete in the first round of the regional meet at Clear Lake High School on
Friday, Oct. 30. The Bulldogs will play
Clear Creek High School at 7:45 a.m.
According
to Coach Tom Shope, the team entered the season with 14 returning players. Led by nine seniors, the team went undefeated
in District 22-5A play and entered the district tournament as the number one
seed, with a record of 15-2 (7-0 in district play).
At the
district tournament, the Bulldogs defeated the Dobie High School Longhorns in
the semifinals to enter the Oct. 24 showdown against Deer Park High School. La Porte defeated Deer Park 10-5 to win the
district championship.
"What a
season to remember," said Shope. "These
types of seasons don't come around very often.
I am so proud of these guys; they have worked hard all season for just
this reason."
